Community and public safety psychiatry

Education and Training Program

The Education and Training Program includes: an accredited one-year Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship; medical student, physician resident, and fellow electives in forensic psychiatry evaluations and treatment, sexual behaviors evaluations and treatment, and research; general psychiatry medication management clinic elective; social worker forensic field placement; criminal justice undergraduate internship elective; Continuing Education credit events for mental health care and law enforcement professions.

Examples of specific programs include:

  • Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program:  There are two fellow positions with a recently added and piloted Child & Adolescent Forensic Psychiatry track.  This track also expanded forensic opportunities for residents in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Residency program.
  • Forensic and SBCL clinical and research electives for medical students, residents and fellows.
  • University of South Carolina College of Social Work social worker field placement site for second year graduate students. 
  • An undergraduate criminal justice internship elective being piloted.
