Team MUSC CDAP Takes Part in the United Ways Day of Caring 2010

Team CDAP participated in Trident United Way's Day of Caring 2010. Day of Caring involves businesses and individuals volunteering their time to help in the community. MUSC's CDAP Team selected the Neighborhood House. Their mission is to provide emergency services for people in need while encouraging and supporting self...-esteem and independence among the people they serve. The Neighborhood House provides a lunchtime soup kitchen and a food pantry. They also offer GED, computer classes, parenting classes, and services for seniors. We revamped their garden area.

CDAP Rallies to Support “Race for the Cure”

Faculty and staff at the Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs recently joined forces in support of breast cancer awareness and research. Darby Jarrett led the effort, coordinating a “Jeans for Breast Cancer” Friday. CDAP employees eagerly gave to the cause, donating a total of $520 to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and wore blue jeans to work to demonstrate their support and participation.

While the Center for Drug and Alcohol Programs focuses its research efforts in the areas of alcohol and substance abuse, faculty and staff recognize the far-reaching effects of addiction. Studies show that alcoholism increases the risk of breast cancer as well as other diseases such as hypertension and cirrhosis of the liver.  Our center remains committed to understanding and acknowledging the big picture of alcohol and drug abuse and their impact on individuals, families, and communities.

In this effort, CDAP continues to seize opportunities to reach beyond our own walls to bring change and to advance wellness in our community.
