Dr. Gene E. Burges is a native of Charleston. She did her undergraduate work at Vanderbilt University and obtained an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the Medical University of South Carolina. Her dissertation addressed the serologic diagnosis of systemic candidiasis.
