Cardiology- Patient Care
Physicians in the Division of Cardiology care for patients in a variety of settings. Inpatient services are offered at Ashley River Tower (ART), Medical University Hospital (MUH) and the VA Medical Center. Outpatient care is provided at ART, the VA Medical Center, and outreach locations in West Ashley, East Cooper and the North Area. Division faculty members have a strong statewide reputation. As part of this effort, they see patients at off-campus sites beyond the Charleston area, from Myrtle Beach, Florence, Beaufort and Columbia. Cardiologists on rotations at the VA Medical Center also serve patients referred from cardiologists at other VA medical facilities in the state and Georgia.
Despite increasing competition, referrals to MUSC have increased steadily because of our long standing reputation for excellence and our clinical outreach efforts. Clinical services provided include general cardiology, electrophysiology, cardiac catheterization, advanced interventional services, CT, MRI, Echo and Nuclear imaging, congestive heart failure management and cardiac transplant.
Division faculty members have unique expertise in the treatment of atrial fibrillation, including the use of ablation, pacemakers and defibrillators. A comprehensive program for research and treatment of atrial fibrillation is led by Dr. Marcus Wharton. In addition, our Division interventional cardiologists are expanding their reputation in South Carolina and nationally as leaders in several innovative procedures, such as TAVR, alcohol septal ablation, PFO and ASD closures.
