Keith Borg, M.D.

Keith Borg M.D., Ph.D. has taken the role of Research Director in the Division of Emergency Medicine at MUSC.  Keith grew up in Irmo, South Carolina and graduated from the Medical Scientist Training Program at MUSC in 2000 with an M.D. and Ph.D.  His thesis studied retroviral gene expression in HIV-1.  He then completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati Emergency Medicine program.  For the past two years, he has been faculty at Emory University and worked clinically at Emory University and Grady Hospitals.  With the development of the residency program in EM, Keith was recruited back to Charleston to develop research in the program.  Keith’s primary area of focused research will involve identification and treatment of sepsis in the ED.  Other areas of interest include risk stratification in acute GI bleed, treatment of alcohol withdrawal seizures and HIV testing in the ED.  Development of research resources and collaborative efforts with other investigators is a high priority of the research program for the division.
