L. Wade Manaker, M.D.
Dr. Manaker joined the MUSC faculty in January 2008. He completed his undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College in 1986 and then graduated from Dartmouth Medical School in 1990. Dr. Manaker was commissioned as a captain in the U.S. Army and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Darnall Army Community Hospital in Ft. Hood, Texas. From the largest armored post in the free world, Dr. Manaker moved to the home of the 82nd Airborne in Ft. Bragg, NC and worked 4 years in the Emergency Medicine Department at Womack Army Medical Center. While at Ft. Bragg, Dr. Manaker provided medical support to the special operation community. Following his military commitment, Dr. Manaker worked for several years in Boca Raton, FL before returning to government work in 2003, where he served as a regional medical officer for the U.S. State Department in South America.
Dr. Manaker is very excited to be back in Charleston, SC and attached to the Medical University. He enjoys being involved in the medical education process and working with medical students, residents, and other students rotating through the ED. Dr. Manaker's interests are in the areas of operational and tactical medicine, disaster medicine, wilderness medicine and is also Board Certified in Emergency Medicine.
