Welcome to the Division of Maritime Medicine, a specialty section of the Medical University of South Carolina’s Prehospital Emergency Services.  We specialize in providing medical services for people at sea where rapid emergent medical care would otherwise be inaccessible.  All of our physicians are board certified in Emergency Medicine and work primarily in the Emergency Departments at MUSC. As the Director of this division I have worked with both Quark Expeditions and Sea Cloud Cruises providing emergency services as needed aboard their sailing vessels.  These assignments have frequently been where our services would be most needed, in remote locations including the southern Caribbean, Eastern Europe, and my personal favorite, Antarctica. In the fall of 2009 I was fortunate enough to receive additional training in maritime disasters with the German Search and Rescue Team in Neustadt, Germany.
