Emergency Medicine Residency EMS Training

Charleston county EMS (CCEMS) has received numerous state and national awards. The system responds to approximately 50,000 calls each year.  During the residents EMS rotation, one has the opportunity to experience 'life on the front line.'  This is accomplished through ride-alongs with CCEMS ambulance and MUSC helicopter transport.  The goal of this experience is to familiarize the resident with the nuances of pre-hospital care, and provide them with some hands on experience.  MUSC is a level I trauma center and cares for seriously injured patients from the eastern half of the state.

Air ambulanceMUSC has it’s own ambulance service called MEDUCARE which assists the CCEMS with pre-hospital care as well as routine transportation of patients between healthcare facilities. Meducare, in addition to the ground transportation service has helicopter ambulance to bring in seriously ill and injured patients from the scene and other level III healthcare facilities in the state to MUSC for advanced and higher level of care. Our residents will have opportunities to learn and participate in the disaster prepardness training.
