About the Emergency Medicine Residency Program
We are rather proud and excited about our residency and therefore would love to tell you more about it. A few things you should know up front. We are one of the newer EM programs in the country starting in 2007. That translates into our first graduating class in June 2010. We're sorry you missed out on all the fun that came with starting the residency from scratch, but you can still join us now to reap the benefits of the unbelievable energy which comes with a new program.  You see, starting a new residency is no easy task. It took the MUSC EM family years to put the infrastructure into place to have an RRC approved EM residency. Once it was approved numerous faculty from many institutions across the country relocated to be a part of it. So what we have now is a blend of "pre" and "post" residency faculty, 26 in fact, all with their efforts focused on having one of the best residencies in the country. And that is what makes us stand out from the rest.

The primary goal when you complete this program is to be not a competent, but an excellent emergency medicine physician ready for independent practice. Period.  We have all of the other bells and whistles to get you to any other EM path you would like to travel, but the base is the same for all of our resident physicians. And we get to do all of this in Charleston, SC. We look forward to receiving your application and answering any questions you may have.
