Dr. Alele joined the MUSC faculty full-time in July 2004. He earned his medical degree at Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda in 1987, following which he completed a residency in internal medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx, New York. Dr. Alele completed a fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1998. Dr. Alele is board certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Also certified in Clinical Densitometry by the International Society of Clinical Densitometry.
Major clinical interests are in the metabolic bone diseases especially the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. Other endocrine diseases of interests include diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases and lipids.
Research interests include understanding the determinants of bone strength (including vitamin D) among African American subjects with lupus.
