Dr. Fernandes joined the MUSC faculty in  September 2002.  She completed her medical school  at  Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, India in 1989, and then post graduation  from Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) India 1992.  After   an internship in Internal Medicine , at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota ,she completed her  residency at the University of Texas-Houston in 1999. Dr. Fernandes  did an  Endocrinology Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX in 2001 with specialization in  Endocrine Oncology .  She is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.

Dr. Fernandes’clinical  interests are Endocrine tumors Thyroid disorders , Diabetes and Metabolic bone disorders. She is part of the Endocrine tumor  clinic at Hollings Cancer center . This clinic is a  multidisciplinary collaborative effort involving Endocrinolgy , Head and Neck surgery, Endocrine surgery , Neurosurgery, Radiology, Radiation oncology and Medical Oncology.  She also has clinics in North Charleston, Rutledge tower and West Ashley.
