Endocrinology - Research Activities

Nine laboratories in the Strom Thurmond Biomedical Research Center, including the Nancy Thurmond Diabetes Research Laboratories, house the division's research programs.  Division members are actively engaged in clinical and basic research with emphasis on genetics of diabetes, diabetic micro- and macrovascular disease, diabetic nephropathy, lipid and intermediary metabolism, obesity, signal transduction and national collaborative clinical trials.  A wide variety of hormone immunoassays, molecular biology, genetic and biochemical procedures are available in these laboratories and may be used for clinical research studies.  Division members and invited investigators present work at regularly scheduled, well-attended research conferences.
