The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical University of South Carolina provides clinical, educational, and research services in all aspects of gastroenterology and hepatology medicine for patients located throughout South Carolina and the Southeastern United States.

Clinical activity in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has increased dramatically over the past seven years.  This has spurred a major effort to recruit clinical faculty to assist in handling the increased patient volume.  Consequently, the division has brought four new clinicians onboard.  These additional physicians have enabled the Division to maintain and expand services offered in the areas of Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), Esophageal Disease, Motility and General Gastroenterology.

The Division’s clinical faculty are members of the Digestive Disease Center (DDC) at the Medical University of South Carolina.  The DDC brings together diverse specialties involved in evaluating and treating digestive diseases and disorders.  Clinical services are coordinated within five sections:  liver disease, pancreatic and biliary disease; gastrointestinal cancer; and general gastroenterology/functional and inflammatory bowel disease and nutrition.

The 2007 U.S. News & World Report once again ranked MUSC Medical Center as a top hospital in regards to its successes at the DDC.  This marks the 11th year in a row for this distinction.
