Assistant Professor of Medicine
Dr. Cuoco graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1998 and completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 2001. She earned a medical student teaching award during her second year of residency, and her board certification in October 2001. Dr. Cuoco then served in the United States Air Force as a general internist from 2001 through 2005.
While in the military, Dr. Cuoco was actively involved in medical student education, functioning as an Associate Clerkship Director for third year Ambulatory Internal Medicine for the Uniformed Services University. After completing her military obligation, she remained on staff at Malcolm Grow Medical Center for a year while her husband completed his general cardiology fellowship.
In 2006, Dr. Cuoco joined the Hospitalist staff at MUSC while her husband completed his Cardiac Electrophysiology training. In 2008, the couple left MUSC for a private practice opportunity in Florida. Both Theresa and Frank missed academic medicine, teaching, camaraderie, and, of course, Charleston, so they returned and rejoined the MUSC staff in July 2009.
Dr. Cuoco's current clinical interests include medical student and resident education, tobacco cessation counseling, and care transitions.
