Research Professor (affiliated) Medical Director of eCare Net Data Mining and Internal Medicine Resident Research Training Faculty Dr. Simpson joined the faculty in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics (GIMG) in 2008 to provide methodological support for residents and faculty in quality and outcomes research, and as the Medical Director of eCare Net Data Mining in the MUHA. She is Professor of Health Administration and Policy in the College of Health Professions, and holds joint appointments in GIMG and in Biostatistics, Bioinformatics & Epidemiology in the College of Medicine, in the Graduate School, and in Pharmacy and Clinical Science in the College of Pharmacy. She is Director of Outcomes Research in the Center for Health Economic and Policy Studies and a memer of the Hollings Cancer Center. Dr. Simpson's teaching and research is focused on the use of archival data for improving quality of care and health outcomes, innovations to decrease disparities in care, and decision analysis modeling to increase the diffusion of new drugs and treatments. Her recent work has focused on the use of new antiretroviral regimens in HIV/AIDS patients in the US, Europe and Africa, minority disparities in renal transplantation, clinical and economic outcomes of brain stimulation therapies in treatment-resistant depression, and factors that affect the use of tPA for ischemic stroke in hospitals. |  | Kit Simpson, DrPH |

She is a native of Denmark where she received her undergraduate education in clinical laboratory science. She held laboratory research positions at Columbia University and Cornell Medical School of NY, and was clinical services and practice manager in primary care practices in NJ and NC, and Director of Allied and Public Health Education at the Mountain AHEC in NC. She received an MPH degree in Health Administration in 1983 and a DR.P.H. in Health Services Research in 1988 from the UNC School of Public Health. Dr. Simpson then completed the RWJ Fellowship in Finance at Johns Hopkins University. She was a tenured Associate Professor of UNC until 1996 when she was recruited by Chiron Corporation in San Francisco to develop a corporate Department of Clinical Economics. While at Chiron she was a member of the virology and the informatics management teams. Dr. Simpson came to MUSC in 1998 as tenured Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, and a member of the MUSC Center for Health Care Research. She has served on numerous MUSC, state, national, and international advisory and committees, has received research funding from AHRQ, NICHD, NHLBI, NCI, DOD, CDC and pharmaceutical and medical device industry sponsors. She is the author of a text book on design and methods for outcomes research, peer review for numerous medical journals, and have published over 100 papers and book chapters.
