Leigh Vaughan, M.D.

Assistant Professor of Medicine

 Dr. Leigh Vaughan is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina.  She began her education with a BS degree in Psychology, with a concentration in psychobiology from Boston College, in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.  She then attended the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in Memphis where she graduated in 1997.  She completed her postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at St. Vincents Catholic Medical Center in New York City in 2000 and remained thee to serve as Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor of Medicine for New York Medical College.

Dr. Vaughan then joined the faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College where she worked for eight years at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in the Department of Medicine as medical consultant for the surgical oncology services.  She also served as a primary care physician in the outpatient setting.  She and her family decided to leave New York City in 2009 and relocate to Charleston, where she joined the faculty at MUSC as an academic hospitalist.

At MUSC Dr. Vaughan is a member of the hospitalist group within the Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.  Her areas of interest are preoperative risk assessment and peri-operative medicine and thromboembolic disorders.  She also has an interest in medical writing for the non-clinician reader and is a member of the American Medical Writers Association.
