Annual South Carolina American College of Physicians Meeting
The Division of General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics was a major participant in the Annual South Carolina American College of Physicians meeting held in Hilton Head, October 20, 21 & 22.  Dr. Dawn Clancy is the South Carolina ACP Governor and Dr. Kim Davis was the Scientific Program Chair for a very successful research and continuing medical education meeting.  Over twenty residents presented case vignettes and posters during the Friday scientific session competing with USC and Greenville’s Medical Programs.  Dr. E. Benjamin Clyburn reviewed recent changes in “Today’s Recommendations and Dilemmas for Anticogulation”. Dr. Elisha Brownfield discussed “Prevention in Your Practice”.  Dr. William Moran led a discussion of using “Evidence-Based Medicine on the Fly” and participated in the town meeting about patient center medical homes.  Dr. Shak Rehman talked on “How to Deal With Difficult Patient Encounters”.

Student Research – Jonathan Duncan
Student Oral Clinical Vignette – Christina Ball
Student Poster Clinical Vignette/Overall – Paul Byra – won trip to San Diego

Resident Poster Clinical Vignette:
            1st place – Dale Young, MD
            2nd place – Rush Brown, MD
            3rd place – Sachin Lvania, MD

Resident Oral Clinical Vignette:
            1st place/overall – Laura Bailey, MD – won trip to San Diego
            2nd place – Michael Tiburzi, DO
            3rd place – Virginia Taylor, MD

Walter Brzezinski, M.D., Attending of the Year, Golden Apple Award, Presidential Scholar Faculty member. 

Shakaib Rehman, M.D., for the Department of Veterans Affairs Special Contribution Award for a unique contribution to the mission of the Department, awarded for his Excellence in Medical Education. Also for the David E. Rogers Junior Faculty Teaching Award by the Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM).
