Assistant Professor

Dr. Steve Chin is a gastrointestinal (GI) medical oncologist with special interest in cancers of the esophagus, stomach, liver, and pancreas.  He joined MUSC Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology in October, 2008. 

Dr. Chin is a medical ongcologist with a unique background.  He was cross-trained in psychiatry, internal medicine and medical oncology.  He was newly appointed as the Director of Neuropsycho-Oncology in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.  Dr. Chin will work with the Behavioral Medicine Division to effectively design a "Psycho-Oncology Clinic" at the Holling's Cancer Center.  This service will provide support for cancer patients with cognitive, emotional and behavioral symptoms.  In addition to clinical service mission, Psycho-Oncology Clinic will create an infrastructure for future Survivorship Research Programs.

Dr. Chin's current research includes the study of pancreatic cancer-related depressive state with an additional focus on pancreatic serum and tissue proteomics for biomarker identification.  Dr. Chin plan to create a database for an ongoing psychometric assessment to better understand the cancer population.
