20th Anniversary Reunion The Hem/Onc fellowship program had its 20th anniversary reunion in late June 2006. The event was attended by alumni and their families from almost all of the program's first 20 classes along with present fellows, faculty, and staff. On Friday night a welcoming reception and reminiscence program over dinner was held at the South Carolina Aquarium. The next morning the alumni and faculty and fellows gathered at MUSC for the Division's annual ASCO Review Symposium (a CME-accredited oncology update), which also was attended by many other oncologists from across the state. The Division had sent its junior and senior fellows to the annual American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in Atlanta earlier that month, and at the ASCO Review each fellow gave a presentation on the most significant developments revealed at ASCO in the particular area of oncology which the fellow had been assigned to cover. The Symposium was accompanied by a vendor fair and was a very well received activity. After a luncheon at which ideas for educational improvement were heard from the alumni, the afternoon was consumed with beach and golf activities. The reunion was concluded Saturday evening with a gala dinner at the City Gallery. Everyone had a great time, and a five-DVD set produced from all the video and photos were made available to the alumni who could not attend. ASH 2006 Review Symposium The Division's ASH 2006 Review Symposium -- a CME-accredited review of the most significant findings reported at the 2006 annual meeting of the American Society of Hematology -- was held at McCrady's restaurant in downtown Charleston on January 25, 2007. The Division's junior and senior fellows had all attended ASH 2006 in Orlando in December, and at the ASH Review each gave a presentation on the major developments revealed at ASH in a particular area of hematology. The Division's founding director and senior hematologist, Dr. Robert Stuart, provided additional insightful commentary after each presentation. Visitors from throughout the Lowcountry were in attendance and gave the program laudatory evaluations.
