Dr. Church earned his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry and Biology from Emory University. He later went on to earn his medical degree from the Emory University School of Medicine, followed by an internship and residency in internal medicine. Dr. Church completed his fellowship in infectious diseases at the National Navel Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Church is acting Chief of Infectious Disease and Hospital Epidemiology at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. Clinical interests include Tropical medicine and zoonotic infections as well as tuberculosis and nontuberculosis mycobacteria.
