Takamitsu Saigusa, M.D.
Takamitsu Saigusa, M.D. joined the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, on July 1, 2012 as an Assistant Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, S.C. Dr. Saigusa received his medical degree from the National Defense Medical College, Saitama, Japan in 1998, where he also completed Medical Residency and Nephrology Fellowship program. He returned to the States and completed Medical Residency at the Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, NY in 2009. He subsequently completed a three-year Nephrology Fellowship in June 2012 at MUSC which included two years of basic science research training under the T32 grant. He also served as a chief fellow during his Fellowship. Dr. Saigusa’s clinical interest includes chronic kidney disease, hypertension and polycystic kidney disease. His primary research interest is to study the role of cilia in the development of hypertension seen in polycystic cystic kidney disease.
