Monika Gooz, M.D., Ph.D.

Associate Professor

Dr. Gooz is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology.  She earned her M.D. (1991) and Ph.D (2004) degrees at the Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary.  During this time she received several awards including the prestigious Humboldt Stipend (German Government) and Eotvos Fellowship (Ministry for Education, Hungary).  She was a visiting scientist at the University of Oulu, Finland.

Following postdoctoral studies at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest, Hungary and at the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Gooz was appointed Instructor in the Department of Medicine in 2004, and was appointed Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology at MUSC in 2006.  She is Associate Member of the College of Graduate Studies at MUSC since 2005 and an Affiliate Member of the Hollings Cancer Center. Dr. Gooz is a member of several organizations including the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the American Physiological Society and the International Nephrology Society.

Dr. Gooz's research focuses on inter-receptor crosstalk in proliferative diseases on the role of metalloenzymes disintegrin (ADAMs) in chronic kidney diseases and cancer.
