Associate Professor Michael G. Janech, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C. Dr. Janech also serves as the Associate Director of the Nephrology Proteomics Laboratory and is a Research Health Scientist at the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans' Affairs Medical Center in Charleston, S.C. Dr. Janech is a graduate of MUSC and completed a National Science Foundation International Research Postdoctoral Fellowship in Montpellier, France prior to joining the Department of Medicine at MUSC in 2005. Dr. Janech has basic science interests surrounding pathological mechanisms underlying diseases of the glomerulus. He is a recipient of a Nephcure Young Investigator award and Veterans' Affairs Career Development Award to investigate the use of urine proteins as predictors of glomerular disease. Dr. Janech is also an adjunct faculty of the Graduate Program in Marine Biology at the College of Charleston and is directing biomarker studies in California sea lions and proteomic analyses of sea-ice algae. He is a member of the American Society of Physiology and Human Proteome Organization.
