Nephrology Fellowship

The Nephrology Fellowship Training Program typically has positions for two to four trainees each year to fulfill the needs of the Clinical Track (two years) and the Research/Clinical Track (three to four years).  The different clinical and basic science research interests of the faculty members in the Division provide new trainees with an excellent and intellectually challenging environment that ultimately makes subspecialty training fun, productive and rewarding.

We have ten clinical fellows and two to three research fellows to cover the Division’s multiple clinical activities. The ABIM requires a minimum of 24 months training with at least 12 months involved in direct patient care. Currently, our clinical fellows do a minimum of 15 months of clinical activity with the option to do more during their elective time. Research fellows customarily are involved in one to two years of research and then at least an additional 12 months of clinical time to be individually determined. The first and second year clinical fellows have an even number of months of service responsibility on either the Chronic or Acute Consult Services, Transplant Service, or the VA Service. The other months are designated as elective months and the fellow is allowed to choose from a number of rotations to suit their personal career interests. Each fellow is required to spend at least one month in the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit.
