Clinics

Each fellow is expected to attend a number of outpatient continuity clinics. The Rutledge Tower Teaching Clinic and the VA Teaching Clinic alternate for each fellow each week. The VA ESRD clinic and the Transplant Clinic are attended when the fellow is assigned to those respective services. Several faculty members attend each clinic and serve as educational resources and assist in the patient care.  Additional experiences in anemia management, lupus nephritis, renal ultrasound, and vascular access are now required as well.

 Rutledge Tower Teaching Clinic
The Rutledge Tower Teaching Clinic is a continuity clinic for the patients with any renal disease or hypertension.  Patients with a myriad of renal diseases are seen and followed over two years by a fellow in continuity. The clinic is fully supported with ancillary personnel and health care services.  Typically each fellow will experience four to six patient visits during a 1/2-day clinic every other week.

 VA Teaching Clinic
The VA Teaching Clinic is a similar continuity clinic except that it is located in the VA Hospital. The clinic is fully supported with ancillary personnel and health care services. Activity in this clinic consists of four to six patient visits during a 1/2-day clinic for each fellow every other week.

 VA ESRD Clinic
The VA ESRD Clinic is attended in lieu of the VA Teaching clinic when the fellow is on service at the VA. Veterans who receive dialysis therapy outside of the VA system and veterans with renal transplants receive their primary care in this clinic.

 Transplant Clinic
The Transplant Clinic is attended four days a week when the fellow is assigned to the Transplant service. The fellow may see patients at all stages of the transplant process from the pre-transplant workup, immediately post-transplant, and with graft failure, reinitiating renal replacement therapy.
