Fellowship Program Goals & Structure

Goals
The goals of the MUSC Nephrology Fellowship are to:

  • train excellent nephrologists with exposure to a
    multitude of renal diseases including renal transplantation;
  • provide experience with nephrology related procedures;
  • encourage an academic approach to medicine;
  • equip the fellow for a variety of practice settings including an academic career.

Our fellows pursue a number of different career paths including academic appointments, clinical and bench research positions, and private practice.

Structure of the Fellowship Training Program
For 2008-2009 we have seven clinical fellows and two research fellows to cover the Division’s multiple clinical and research activities.  Certification by the  American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) requires a minimum of 24 months training with at least 12 months involved in direct patient care.
