Each fellow will round at an outpatient dialysis unit weekly during their PD month and VA months.  Fellows may also work with individual faculty physicians during their second year to gain additional experience as needed.  Topics emphasized are anemia management, calcium and phosphorus metabolism, nutrition, vascular access and efficacy of dialysis. Management of the dialysis unit is also emphasized, and the fellow is encouraged to participate in the quality assurance program for that dialysis unit.
