Alice Boylan, M.D.

Dr. Boylan received her BS in Biology and Chemistry at Dickinson College, and her MD from Temple University. She then completed an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. This was followed by fellowship training in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of California San Francisco and research training at UCSF”s Cardiovascular Research Institute. She then served on the faculty at UCSF until accepting a position in the Pulmonary Division at MUSC in 1995.
Dr. Boylan has been the principal investigator of multiple research grants with a history of 20 years of continuous funding, and has authored a number of scientific and clinical publications related to her work. In addition she has lectured both nationally and internationally and served on multiple professional committees, most notably for the American Thoracic Society.
In addition to patient care and teaching activities, Dr. Boylan is Director of the Medical Acute and Critical Care Service Line with responsibility for the quality and safety of care for patients in Medical Wards and ICUS at MUSC. She has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” for many years and received that designation again for 2013. Her clinical and research interests are currently focused on the diagnosis and treatment of critically ill patients. She welcomes physician consultations related to critical care.
