Galina S. Bogatkevich, M.D., Ph. D.

Dr. Galina S. Bogatkevich is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Rheumatology at the Medical University of South Carolina. She received her M.D. in Internal Medicine in1991 and her Ph.D. in Pharmacology in 1994 from the Minsk Medical University, Belarus.

After postdoctoral training in the University Essen, Germany, and in the Medical University of South Carolina, she joined the Rheumatology Faculty in 2004.

Dr. Bogatkevich’s research interests focus on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of pulmonary fibrosis in scleroderma patients. The ongoing research in the laboratory can be subdivided in three major projects: 1) myofibroblasts in scleroderma lung disease, 2) CTGF-interacting proteins in scleroderma pulmonary fibrosis, and 3) comparative proteomic analysis of fibrotic and healthy lungs and epithelial lining fluid that covers the airways.
