Marcy B. Bolster is a Professor of Medicine, Medical Director, MSK Service Line and Director, Rheumatology Training Program. The rheumatology training program currently has 6 fellows and places an emphasis on strong clinical training, research, and developing the fellow as an educator. Dr. Bolster has clinical interests in scleroderma with a particular emphasis on the lung disease associated with scleroderma, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. She has participated in clinical treatment trials in scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis. She is board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology. She is involved in developing a multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of bone and joint disease at MUSC. These efforts involved the coordination of care provided by endocrinology, rheumatology, orthopaedics, radiology, and physical therapy. The Geriatric Fracture Program has been established at MUSC to enhance the care of the patient with a hip fracture. A Vertebral Fracture Program and a focus on women's health and osteoporosis are in development. The Musculoskeletal Service Line, one of several hospital service lines, was introduced by MUH on July 1, 2008. The focus of the service line is the interdisciplinary approach to the delivery of excellent care in autoimmune and musculoskeletal diseases. She has a strong interest in education and has been involved in programs focused on mentoring. She has been involved with educational programs coordinated by the American College of Physicians.
