Alan N. Brown, M.D.

After receiving his Doctorate of Medicine in 1993 at the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Brown completed his internship in 1994, also at the Medical University.  He then completed his residency in 1996 at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia.  From 1996-1997 he stayed on and served as Chief Resident at the same institution.  In 2000 Dr. Brown returned to the Medical University of South Carolina where he completed his fellowship in Rheumatology in 2002.

Dr. Brown joined the Medical Corps of the United States Army Reserve in 1989 and completed his tour of service as a Major in 2003.  From 1994 -2000 he served on active duty stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia and with the 249th General Hospital.  Also during his time with the military he served as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and as Assistant Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

In 2002 Dr. Brown joined the Rheumatology faculty at MUSC as an Assistant Professor of Medicine; he also serves as a Consultant and Attending in Medicine at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center and as a Consultant at East Cooper Regional Medical Center. 

Each week, he holds clinics in Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, and downtown; along with his attending responsibilities he devotes numerous hours to the education of the residents and fellows.  In 2005, Dr. Brown joined the Department of Medicine as Associate Vice Chairman for Medical Education where he works closely with Vice Chairman Dr. Julius Sagel.  One of their many responsibilities is running the Physical Diagnosis program.

Dr. Brown has been the recipient of many awards, honors, and society memberships throughout his medical career and his career while serving with the Army.   Dr. Brown is well known nationally in the Rheumatology specialty and lectures frequently locally and nationwide.
