Dr. Jennifer K. Murphy is an Assistant Professor in Rheumatology at the Medical University of South Carolina. She received her Bachelor of Science in the field of Neuroscience from Brown University in 1991. She then went on to attend medical school at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. She decided to stay at Loyola for completion of her internal medicine residency. During her medical training she was drawn to the field of rheumatology for its predilection for affecting young women and for the diverse systemic effects of its autoimmune diseases. She completed her fellowship training in rheumatology at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago, IL and started practicing clinical rheumatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston. There she became involved with the teaching of residents and fellows. She also participated in teaching the Harvard Medical School students both in the clinic and didactically. Dr. Murphy has a primary focus on clinical rheumatology with a particular interest in the inflammatory arthritides. Although relatively new to the Medical University of South Carolina, she hopes to become involved in clinical trials looking for novel treatments of rheumatoid arthritis.
