The Medicine Visiting Clerkship Program (MVCP) is sponsored jointly by the Medical University of South Carolina Department of Medicine, the Dean's Office, and the Office of Diversity. This program provides support for fourth-year minority (African American, Native American, and Hispanic American) medical students to participate in internal medicine rotations through the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
This MVCP is designed to:
Foster the students' awareness of the opportunities in academic medicine
Expose the medical student to the outstanding training program in the Department of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina
Increase the number of students underrepresented in the medicine applying to the IM Residency Training Program at MUSC
Four week clerkships offered July through April each year.
Eligibility: fourth-year medical students in good standing at LCME accredited medical schools.
Financial support for travel to and from Charleston.
Housing support.
Opportunities to meet with the residency program director, current residents, and students.
A student dinner with a minority faculty and/or resident once during your four week rotation.
Available rotations: IM Externship CHF/Transplantation Digestive Diseases Hematology/Oncology Consultations in: Clinical Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Nephrology, Pulmonary, and Rheumatology
Visiting students have access to the MUSC library, student facilities, educational programs, and seminars.
