Goals

  1. Present a typical case of a patient with asthma.
  2. Discuss the use and interpretation of pulmonary function testing (i.e. spirometry).
  3. Compare and contrast the features of asthma and COPD.
  4. Discuss the management of asthma.

Need

  1. Patient presenting data of an easy case of asthma (preferably moderately persistent)
  2. Spirometric images that could be put on a slide
  3. CXR
  4. Perhaps a CT from a patient with emphysema

Goals

  1. Present a typical case of a patient with lung mass or nodule.
  2. Discuss the risks for lung cancer.

  1. Patient presenting data of a lung mass
  2. CXR, CT scan, perhaps a PET scan?
  3. Consider a bronchoscopic image or video?

Pulmonary Embolism

Goals

  1.  Present a typical case of a patient with a pulmonary embolism.
  2. Discuss the risks for DVT and embolism.
  3. Discuss the appropriate diagnostic testing.
  4. Discuss the treatment of DVT/pulmonary embolism.

Need

  1. Patient presenting data of a pulmonary embolism.
  2. CXR (preferable clear or with wedge infarct), CT angio, V/Q scan
  3. Consider an ECHO video?
Pleural Effusion

Goals

  1. Present a typical case of a patient with a pleural effusion.
  2. Discuss the mechanisms of a pleural effusion
  3. Discuss the pleural fluid analysis and the differential diagnosis
  4. Discuss the proper management of an effusion

Need

  1. Patient presenting data of a pleural effusion
  2. CXR (preferable with contralateral mediastinal shift), CT scan
  3. PFA
