Residency Program Director Welcome Message
Welcome to our website!  I am pleased that you are interested in Internal Medicine training at the Medical University of South Carolina.  MUSC has a long tradition of training outstanding physicians and I am absolutely committed to continuing that tradition.  We have an educational program that is challenging, supportive, flexible, and responsive to the needs of the individual trainee.

A key to any excellent training program is the quality of the residents and faculty who form it.  We are quite fortunate to have superb residents who are bright, caring, professional and very supportive of one another.  They are a diverse group that function well individually and in the team setting.  The faculty in the Department of Medicine devotes a major effort to teaching.  Faculty members see residents as junior colleagues and are supportive and approachable.  The residents are consistently involved in all decisions involving curriculum changes and service design.

Another strength of our program is the incredible mix of patients.  Our residents help provide primary care for a significant proportion of the patients in the lowcountry of South Carolina.  Additionally, MUSC serves as the tertiary referral center for the entire state.  Exposure to ambulatory and inpatient training experiences is well balanced. Therefore, our residents are equally well prepared to practice as general internists or to pursue further training as subspecialists.
