Levels of Giving

Writing a checkGifts at any level are recognized by the Department of Medicine and the Medical University.  Gifts are accepted by the Medical University of South Carolina Foundation which is the fundraising arm of the University.  The following giving societies were established to recognize the generous contributions of our MUSC alumni, family and friends.

Society of 1824
The Society of 1824 is the Medical University’s major donor recognition club which was established to recognize the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations that make philanthropic gifts to benefit our mission of education, patient care and research.  Recognition levels begin at $1,000 (Member) up to the Millennium Society which recognizes gifts of $1 million and more.   Gifts made in support of the Department of Medicine and/or the individual Clinical Divisions are recognized by the University at this level.  Gifts are recognized during the July 1 - June 30 fiscal year.

Annual Giving Societies
The following annual giving societies were established to acknowledge the loyal annual gifts given by alumni, grateful patients, employees and friends.  These annual gifts ensure that our programs of excellence can continue in spite of continued state funding decreases.

   Moultrie Society ($500-$999.99)
   Elliott Society    ($250-$499.99)
   Dickson Society ($100-$249.99)
   Ramsay Society ($99 and under)

Legacy Society
The Legacy Society, a part of the Society of 1824, was established to honor and acknowledge those individuals who have made philanthropic commitments to the Medical University Foundation through their estate plans.  These types of planned gifts – through bequests, charitable trusts, gift annuities, life insurance – provide the University with the long-term financial stability needed to ensure uninterrupted pursuit of its mission.  For that reason, and because they require such an extraordinary level of thoughtful planning and commitment, these gifts are widely regarded as the “ultimate gift.”
