The Division of Violence Intervention and Prevention (VIP) at The Medical University of South Carolina provides both inpatient and outpatient evaluations of children suspected of child abuse and neglect. The Violence Intervention and Prevention Division has two board certified Child Abuse Pediatricians, as well as one senior Pediatrician highly experienced in the field. The MUSC VIP also includes two certified pediatric nurse practitioners, a certified family nurse practitioner, and a Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (P-SANE) Coordinator, along with four P-SANEs.

The MUSC VIP Division provides 24-hour coverage to any child suspected of abuse or neglect and works hard to provide education in the prevention of child maltreatment.

Training Programs

The Division of Violence Intervention and Prevention is active in educating nurses, medical students, physician assistant students, and MUSC Residents. The Division of Violence Intervention and Prevention plans to have a Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship soon.
