Within the MUSC Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences, there were over 30,000 MR imaging and CT exams performed during the 2010-11 academic year. The Neuroradiology Division was responsible for a significant number of those examinations, which includes standard CT and MRI as well as advanced applications such as spinal MR angiograms as well as fetal MR imaging. The division of diagnostic neuroradiology at MUSC provides clinical, educational, and research services in all aspects of neuroradiology for the patients in Charleston and throughout South Carolina.
The most advanced and sophisticated MR, CT, and PET-CT imaging studies are being performed using state-of-the art equipment.
In addition to the imaging studies, CT-guided biopsies of the spine, neck, and skull base are routinely performed.
Our comprehensive program of image-guided minimally invasive spine interventional procedures includes:
CT and Fluoroscopically guided epidural injections, nerve root blocks, facet injection, sacroiliac joint injections, median branch blocks, radiofrequency facet ablation, vertebral augmentation (including kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty), biopsies as well as advanced procedures such as percutaneous cervical and lumbar disc decompression, percutaneous vertebral cement augmentation, percutaneous spinal tumor ablations and cement augmentation.
The Division actively collaborates with multiple departments throughout MUSC, as well as with other institutions. This includes active participation in multiple interdepartmental conferences, in which entire teams discuss and decide on further management of individual patients.
The Division offers an ACGME accredited fellowship program in diagnostic neuroradiology . The faculty members are recognized nationally and internationally and have been invited as speakers and visiting professors at meetings and other institutions all over the world. The Division is involved in multiple research projects advancing the field of Neuroradiology and frequently publishes in leading peer-reviewed journals.
