Nuclear Medicine Research
Dr. Leonie Gordon and Dr. Kenneth Spicer are both actively involved in research both within the department as well as in the institution. Nuclear medicine recently participated in the Siemens Cardiovascular CT/SPECT System evaluation. This equipment is not yet clinically available. Twenty five patients were imaged using SPECT myocardial perfusion scanning as well as a combined cardiovascular CT/SPECT system.
Nuclear medicine is participating in the National Oncology PET Registry and MUSC has enrolled many eligible patients. PET/CT is participating in at least two ACRIN clinical trials. Dr. Kenneth Spicer is the principal investigator for a trial looking at the effectiveness of Iodine I 131 Tositumomab Therapy Versus Ibritumomab Tiuxetan Therapy for Patients with Relapsed or Transformed Follicular Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Dr. Spicer is a co principal investigator in a study looking at dosimetry of Interstitial 131I-chTNT-1/B Mab for the Treatment of Glioblastoma Multiforme at First Relapse. This ground breaking therapy may prove to be very useful in patients with this tumor. Dr Gordon is involved with nuclear cardiology research projects and is a clinical investigator in the WOMEN study. |
