Abid Irshad, MBBS
Director, Breast Imaging
Dr. Irshad is the Director of the Breast Imaging program. He received his M.B.B.S (M.D.) from Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. He completed Radiology training at the Postgraduate Medical Institute and College of Physicians and Surgeons in Pakistan. He completed a fellowship in mammography at MUSC in 1999-2000 and is part of the radiology faculty at MUSC since then. He received Golden Apple award for best teacher in 2007 and has served on resident selection committee, faculty senate and Institutional Review Board (IRB) at MUSC.
At the national level, he has been a board examiner for the oral radiology board exams by the American Board of radiology (ABR) since 2009. He is an ABR committee member for test writing and evaluation for the Radiology certifying exam and has been part of the standard setting group for the Radiology Core-Exam in 2013 and 2014. He is serving as a reviewer for the American College of Radiology (ACR) in the breast MR accreditation program and as a member of the CME committee at the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Nationally, he is actively involved in radiology societies and has been invited to moderate and give lectures at various national society meetings such as the American institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and the ACR state society meetings. He is an editorial board member and reviewer for several journals and has authored over 40 articles, papers and reviews published in various journals. His main interests are Breast Imaging and general ultrasound and intervention.
