Assistant Professor of Radiology
Dr. Rao joined MUSC as an Assistant Professor of Radiology in January 2006. He received his MBBS (M.D.) degree from Mysore Medical College, Mysore, India. He then completed an internship and diagnostic radiology residency from the same institution, and a Neuroradiology residency at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore, India. After working in private practice as a radiologist in India, he moved to the United States to continue his medical training. He received extensive fellowship training including Neuroradiology at the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon, Interventional Radiology at Rush Presbyterian St Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, Abdominal Imaging fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital/ University of Miami Medical Center in Miami, Florida before doing a Pediatric Radiology and Pediatric Body MRI fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Rao’s professional interests include radiation dose reduction in pediatric imaging, pediatric cross-sectional imaging, especially body and musculoskeletal MRI, as well as the imaging of acute appendicitis and childhood obesity.
