Donald Frey Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. G. Donald Frey, Professor of Radiology, has been awarded the Jimmy O. Fenn Lifetime Achievement Award for his many accomplishments in Medical Physics. The South East Chapter of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine gives the award, named after the late Dr. Jimmy O. Fenn.  Dr Fenn was for many years a professor of Radiation Oncology at MUSC.  Dr Frey is the first recipient of the award.  In accepting the award Dr. Frey stated "I am proud to accept this award named after my late mentor.  I worked with Dr. Fenn for many years.  He was dedicated to the application of physics to the improvement of human health and well being and served as a model for me."

Dr. Frey has served as president of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine and twice served as the president of the South East Chapter.  He also served as president of the Commission for the Accreditation of Medical Physics and on the board of directors of the International Organization for Medical Physics.

The award cites Dr Frey’s many contributions to science, especially the physical aspects of breast imaging, and education, especially setting standards for medical physics education and his leadership in the profession. The award was presented in Memphis, Tennessee on March 25, 2006.
