Neuroradiology is a busy service at MUSC. There are two residents assigned to this service, which is usually covered by two of our Neuroradiology staff on any given day. Responsibilities include interpretation of CT or MRI studies of the head or neck. This service also performs several procedures, including myelograms, CT myelograms, cisternograms (in conjunction with Nuclear medicine), and CT-guided biopsies of spinal and head/neck lesions. Typical volume is around 40-50 studies per day, with 3-4 procedures per week. All neurovascular interventional procedures and all biopsies are peformed by neuro-interventional physicians Dr. Aquilla Turk and Dr. Imran Chaudry. Residents are encouraged to participate in these procedures while on the rotation, and if interested can schedule a Neurointerventional elective in their 4 th year. MUSC has kept our equipment on the cutting edge, as evidenced by the 3T MRI housed on the first floor in the Center for Advanced Imaging Research. This particular MRI has about 50% research usage, including such research projects such as the evaluation of functional MRI (fMRI) and exploring the physiology of addiction. We also have three Philips 1.5T units. MUSC currently has the following Fellowship trained Neuroradiologists on staff: Dr. Zoran Rumboldt, Dr. Maria Spampinato, Dr. Alessandro Cianfoni, Dr. Gisele Matheus and Dr. Donna Roberts. Our next neuroradiology fellowship opening is for July 2011. For more information, please see our neuroradiology fellowship page. |
