Most second year residents take the Physics written board exams, this is optional and can be decided by the resident and program directors. Preparation is excellent with a six-week course led by our radiology physics faculty members, Dr. Don Frey and Dr. Walter Huda.

The written portion of the ACR board exam can be taken in your third or fourth year. Most residents choose to take this the third year. Study is self-directed and based on previous ACR in-service exams, old questions, and whatever else you can get your hands on.

Formal oral board preparation begins in the second half of fourth year. In addition to more daytime lectures devoted to board-type cases, attendings also give after-hours focused board reviews for seniors only. Several weeks before the exam "mock-boards" are held in the department. These are conducted by the attendings and include timing bells and direct feedback. The residents do not currently have scheduled time off from clinical rotations to study for the exams.
